I couldn’t handle my own over-achieving this week. I kicked off with tough cramps (feeling physically bad), ended with a huge loss of life motivation for a few days. Wim Hof Fundamentals Course – Week 3 Review Ultimately, I defaulted to last week’s homework – submerging each hand and foot in a painful bath of ice water for two minutes each – but only managed to do it twice. Halfway through the week, I got sick of doing the energy breaths and went back to the regular hold-on-exhale.I had awful menstrual cramps, which the energy breathing seemed to make more intense.We did two rounds of that, then two rounds of the exhale-and-holds. Wim introduced “energy” breathing this week.I finally read the participant FAQs and discovered this is normal. I felt less and less of a “charge” last week, disappointingly. Wim talks about getting “your charge” when doing the breathing.Here’s what I thought about week three: Wim Hof Breathing Best: Week 3 included the three main parts of the Wim Hof Method: breathing, cold water training, and stretching.

You can hold on through a little bit of discomfort, but there is no reason to push it or it'll be counter-productive to your meditative state.ĪFAICT, the biggest risk with WHM breathing is passing out, and you should always assume that's a possibility (and you've gone too far if you do). When you need to breathe, you should breathe. With Wim Hof breathing, you would be getting no where near this threshold.

At that point, your brain is legitimately being deprived of oxygen and that can cause long-term damage. I have found that there seems to be no way to hurt yourself with just breathing EXCEPT if you push yourself to hold your breath as long as possible in a competitive setting (through a lot of pain and discomfort). I'm not an authoritative source for this kind of question, but I've done quite a bit of research on breath work.
